Frequently Asked Questions:
Will it remove my make-up? Under normal circumstances, if your make-up is put on lightly - yes. If you are using a lot of makeup or you are using some of the waterproof or water-resistant products out there - no. Under those circumstances you may need to use a make-up remover. I'm sorry to say that Dr. Denese has not created one yet for you. Perhaps in the future. You will find however, that the Pore Refining Toner works very well during the second step of your cleansing process.
What is a BHA or Beta Hydroxy Acid? BHA is a lipid (oil) soluble compound that penetrates to the thicker dermal skin layers located below the epidermis. Because it is lipid soluble, it will form a solution with your natural oils and effectively loosen dead skin for exceptional exfoliation properties. In the context of this product, I believe that the term BHA is used for it's familiarity. This ingredient is actually classified as a PHA (Polyhydroxy Acid). Depending on the source it appears to be called an AHA and/or a BHA. Nevertheless, Gluconolactone is used in this product for its exfoliatiing, hydrating and cell nourishment properties. It is a natural derivative of glucose. PHA's are milder than AHAs. The theory is that because lactic and glycolic acid are such small molecules, they can penetrate immediately and probably overload the sensory neurons, leading to stinging and burning. It is thought that because the PHA is a little bigger, a little more polar, it doesn't rush into the skin as quickly as glycolic acid. Because of their mildness, PHAs are more tolerable to people with rosacea and atopic (allergy prone) skin.
Why doesn't this cleanser foam? Dr. Denese DermaClean Cleanser is sulfate free. In other words it doesn't use these widely popular sulfate ingredients nor does it use any high foaming additives. Instead it uses low faoming Cocoamphodiacetate. This ingredient is noted for it's mildness while retaining good cleansing properties.
